The Powerball jackpot may not have been won in Kansas, but the Sunflower State had multiple players win million-dollar prizes, and now both have been anonymously claimed this week at Kansas Lottery headquarters in Topeka.

First, the $1 million winning ticket that was sold in Northwest Kansas was claimed. The winners said they were still in shock, and were nervous all weekend waiting to call the Lottery.

“It was nerve-wracking to sit there from Saturday night at 10:30 p.m. to Monday morning at 9:00 a.m. to reach out to the Lottery for confirmation,” The winner said. “We wanted to make sure before we got ahead of ourselves!”

The player says they plan to use their winnings on college funds for their children, paying off some debt, and maybe planning a big family vacation to a dream destination!

The winning ticket was sold at Casey’s General Store 2295 at 1301 Canterbury Drive in Hays.

The following day, another seven-figure winner strolled into the Kansas Lottery claim center, this time with a $2 million Powerball with Powerplay winner! The winner came with family to claim their prize but elected to remain anonymous.

“My wife and I couldn’t sleep Saturday night, we just sat in bed talking to each other,” the winner said with a laugh. “We were too excited to sleep!”

As for their winnings, the winner said they already have a few ideas. “We will be making a donation to our church first, because this is such a huge blessing. After that, we will probably start looking for a house!” the winner added.

The winning numbers in the Saturday, September 6 Powerball drawing were 11 – 23 – 44 – 61 – 62 Powerball 17, Power Play X2. The $2 million winning Powerball ticket was sold in the Kansas Lottery app.  

Players may have noticed that they were not able to purchase as many drawings on their Powerball tickets. That is because there is a game change at the end of September coming to Powerball in Kansas! The new DoublePlay feature can be added to any Powerball ticket for an additional $1. The DoublePlay is a secondary drawing that immediately follows the main Powerball jackpot drawing, where players can win up to $10 million!

The new DoublePlay feature will begin with the September 22, 2025, drawing. As that date gets closer, there will be fewer multi-draw options for players in preparation for the game change. Starting on September 22, players will be able to purchase up to 15 drawings in advance as they could before.
