El Dorado Nurse and Firefighter Husband Win $20,000 Prize

Like many lottery players who win big prizes, Tammy Zimmerman, 39, of El Dorado wasn't absolutely, positively sure she had won until she got to the Lottery office in Topeka.

"I took one look at the receptionist's face and knew right away I'd won big money," Zimmerman said. "She was really excited for me."

Zimmerman won her "big money" - a $20,000 prize - on the single $2 Bonus Crossword ticket she bought last Wednesday.

"I had stopped to get gas and had a couple of bucks left over, so I figured why not pick up a Bonus Crossword," Zimmerman explained. "My mom and I both really enjoy playing the game."

Zimmerman is a nurse at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Her husband Jack, who's a firefighter in El Dorado, accompanied his winning wife to Lottery headquarters where the $20,000 prize officially became theirs.

"I'm excited now that we know for sure," said Jack.  Tammy agreed it was quite a windfall and "great to have extra cash that we weren't expecting."

The Zimmermans plan to use their prize money to purchase a vehicle for Tammy's mother and may also take a little mini-vacation.

The lucky Bonus Crossword ticket was purchased at QuikTrip 310, located at 1320 W. Central Avenue in El Dorado.
