Topeka Resident claims Fourth Top Prize Playing Instant
Winning a Kansas Lottery top prize is becoming customary for
74-year-old Dorothy Rowley. Several years ago, the Topeka
resident won $40,000 playing an instant scratch game and just days
after claiming that prize, she won a top prize worth $20,000.
Two years ago, she won another $10,000 playing a $2 Bingo instant
ticket and today, she claimed a top prize worth $20,000 playing a
$2 Bonus Crossword instant ticket, bringing her total winnings to
$90,000 since 1999!
I've really been lucky with scratch games," said Rowley.
"Besides the four big prizes I've won, I've also won several $1,000
prizes. I wish I had this kind of luck when I play
Rowley, who purchased her latest winning ticket Sunday morning,
knew she had won a big prize but wasn't sure of the amount.
"At first, I thought I had won $2,000," explained Rowley.
"To be sure, I recounted the words. Each time I came up with
a different number, so I went back to the store where I bought it
and checked it myself. When I scanned my ticket on a
Check-a-Ticket the machine read, 'Claim at Lottery,' but it didn't
show me the amount I had won. I knew I had won at least won
After her children looked over the winning ticket they
discovered Rowley had revealed 10 words on her ticket, winning a
$20,000 top prize.
"I told them not to get their hopes up," said Rowley. "I
wasn't going to believe I had won another top prize until someone
from the Lottery told me it was true. Now that I know it's
real, it's hard to believe."
