Topeka Resident claims Fourth Top Prize Playing Instant Scratch Games!

Winning a Kansas Lottery top prize is becoming customary for 74-year-old Dorothy Rowley.  Several years ago, the Topeka resident won $40,000 playing an instant scratch game and just days after claiming that prize, she won a top prize worth $20,000.  Two years ago, she won another $10,000 playing a $2 Bingo instant ticket and today, she claimed a top prize worth $20,000 playing a $2 Bonus Crossword instant ticket, bringing her total winnings to $90,000 since 1999!

I've really been lucky with scratch games," said Rowley.  "Besides the four big prizes I've won, I've also won several $1,000 prizes.  I wish I had this kind of luck when I play Powerball."

Rowley, who purchased her latest winning ticket Sunday morning, knew she had won a big prize but wasn't sure of the amount.

"At first, I thought I had won $2,000," explained Rowley.  "To be sure, I recounted the words.  Each time I came up with a different number, so I went back to the store where I bought it and checked it myself.  When I scanned my ticket on a Check-a-Ticket the machine read, 'Claim at Lottery,' but it didn't show me the amount I had won.  I knew I had won at least won $2,000."

After her children looked over the winning ticket they discovered Rowley had revealed 10 words on her ticket, winning a $20,000 top prize.

"I told them not to get their hopes up," said Rowley.  "I wasn't going to believe I had won another top prize until someone from the Lottery told me it was true.  Now that I know it's real, it's hard to believe."

Rowley, who has three grown children, one granddaughter and one great-granddaughter, plans to pay bills and fix her car with her winnings.

The winning ticket was purchased at Whitelakes 66, located at 931 SW 37th in Topeka.
