Augusta Resident Passes the Time with $10,000 Winning
Ticket
hile waiting for her husband to return from a doctor's
appointment this morning, Virginia Patteson decided to pass the
time by purchasing four of the Kansas Lottery's $2 Stars and Bars
instant scratch tickets. As she waited for him in the car she
scratched her tickets. Moments later, she couldn't believe
what she was seeing. The Augusta resident had revealed a
$10,000 top prize on one of the tickets she purchased!
"I sat there in shock," said Patteson. "I took a picture
of the ticket and sent it to my daughter so she could look at
it. I wanted to make sure I was reading the ticket
correctly."
Shortly after her daughter confirmed it looked like a $10,000
winning ticket, her husband Russell returned to the car.
"I had Russell look at the ticket, too," said Patteson.
"He decided we had better have it checked, so I went to the nearest
convenience store and checked the ticket myself on a Check-a-Ticket
machine. When the machine read, 'Claim at Lottery,' I knew
without a doubt I had won a top prize."
After going to yet another doctor's appointment for her
seven-year-old son, the Pattesons made the trip to Topeka to claim
their prize.
"I buy tickets maybe once a month," said Patteson. "I was
just killing time. I never expected to win $10,000!"
Patteson and her husband, who have been married eight years,
decided to pay bills with their winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at QuikTrip 391, located at 730
N. Broadway St. in Wichita.
