Topeka Resident Looking for Non-Winning Ticket Wins $75,000 Top Prize

Wednesday morning will be a day Vincent Cook of Topeka won't soon forget.  Before going to work that morning, Cook stopped at a local convenience store to purchase a couple of the Kansas Lottery's $10 Charger Cash instant scratch tickets. The 48-year-old couldn't believe his luck after he revealed a $75,000 top prize on the first ticket he scratched!

"I've been playing Charger Cash since it started in April," said Cook.  "I've been buying tickets, so I can enter them for the second-chance drawing to win the Charger.  I've bought 50 tickets so far and out of those, I've had a minimum of 20 winning tickets.  I'm having a hard time finding a non-winning ticket to send in for the drawing.  Before winning $75,000, I was already $500 ahead in the game."

Players who purchase the Charger Cash game and have non-winning tickets can enter their tickets for a chance to win a 2014 Dodge Charger in the Charger Cash second-chance drawing to be held at this year's Kansas State Fair in Hutchinson.

"I like to buy the $5 and $10 instant tickets that have second-chance drawings," said Cook.  "A couple of years ago, I won a laptop in the Tech the Halls drawing.  Maybe my luck will continue and I'll win the Charger, too."

The lucky winner, who claimed his top prize just a couple of hours after winning, said the reality of the win really hadn't had a chance to sink in.

"This has been a crazy morning," Cook said when claiming his winning ticket.  "One minute I'm headed to work and then the next thing I know I'm winning $75,000.  The store clerk who sold me the ticket was as shocked as I was when I showed how much I had won.  I've already decided I'm going to give her $100 for selling me the winning ticket."

After tipping the store clerk $100 for selling him the winning ticket, Cook plans to pay off his house with the rest of his prize money.

The winning ticket was purchased at Kwik Shop 740, located at 2277 SW 10th Ave. in Topeka.  There is one $75,000 top prize remaining in the Charger Cash game.
