Leavenworth Resident receives Early Birthday Surprise
Some say diamonds are a girl's best friend, but for Tina Dwyer,
the Kansas Lottery's Double
Diamond instant scratch game is her new best friend. The
lucky Leavenworth resident purchased two of the $5 instant scratch
tickets and won a $25,000 top prize on the first one she
"I usually buy $10 worth of the $2 Crosswords every day after
work, but when I saw the new $5 Double Diamond game, I decided to
buy it instead," explained Dwyer. "I scratched the first ticket
when I was in the car and couldn't believe what I was seeing.
My first thought when I realized I had won $25,000 was 'Oh, my God!
I can't believe this!' I was so excited."
The lucky winner tried calling her husband at work, but her cell
phone was dead. When she arrived home, she rushed in the
house to use the landline phone.
"When I talked to my husband and told him how much I had won, he
thought I had one of those fake lottery tickets," laughed
Dwyer. "He didn't believe me until he got home and was able
to see the ticket for himself. This win came at a great time.
My birthday is coming up and I'm considering this to be an early
birthday present. Happy birthday to me!"
Dwyer said she plans to buy a newer car with a portion of her
winnings and enjoy the rest. She purchased her winning ticket
at Star Gas, located 788 Spruce St. in Leavenworth. There are three
$25,000 top prizes remaining in the Double Diamond instant scratch
game as well as thousands of other cash prizes.
