Ulysses Resident Wins Hot Prize worth $30,000

Ulysses residents Tim and Cindy Reeves were preparing for Christmas when they stopped at a local liquor store to buy items for holiday gift baskets.  While in the store, Tim decided to purchase the Kansas Lottery's Fast 5 sampler, which includes tickets for Powerball, Mega Millions, Hot Lotto, Super Kansas Cash and 2by2.  When checking his tickets a couple of days later, Reeves discovered he had won a $30,000 cash prize on his Hot Lotto ticket!

Reeves won the $30,000 Hot Lotto cash prize by matching the first five numbers, but not the Hot Ball in the December 14, 2016, drawing.

"I went back to the liquor store a couple of days later and checked my tickets," said Reeves.  "The last ticket I scanned was my Hot Lotto ticket.  When I scanned it the message read, 'See store clerk. Claim at Lottery.' I've never seen that message before, so I asked the clerk to scan the ticket for me.  There were several customers in the store, so when she scanned my ticket she looked at me and discreetly mouthed 'Wow!'"

After leaving the store, Reeves called his wife to share the great news.

"When she answered I said, 'Christmas just came early! I won $30,000!'" said Reeves.  "Of course she didn't believe me at first."

After signing the back of his winning ticket, Reeves kept it in his home safe for safekeeping until they were able to make a trip to Lottery headquarters in Topeka to claim his prize.

"Since we planned to attend last night's KU/K-State game, we decided to wait and claim my ticket on our way home," said Reeves.  "It's been a great trip. I have a few Holiday Millionaire Raffle tickets at home I need to check.  I'm hoping I'll be making another trip to Topeka to claim another big prize."

The Reeves said they plan to build an enclosed patio on their house with the winnings.  He purchased the winning ticket at DK Liquor, located at 704 W. Oklahoma Ave. in Ulysses.
