Wamego Player Picks up Sick Daughter; Wins $10,000 Lottery
Prize
If it wasn't for her daughter getting sick and needing to be
picked up at school yesterday, Teresa Duncan might not have found
herself $10,000 richer.
"After I picked up Hannah at the high school, I stopped to get
gas," explained the Wamego woman. "While there, I also purchased
two $2 Slingo tickets because Slingo is one of my favorite
games.
"When they got home, Duncan scratched the first ticket. Nothing.
Then the second ticket, which was a real eye-opener.
Duncan said, "I called my husband right away to tell him I'd won
$10,000. He didn't believe me, so I told him I was going to Topeka
by myself!"
"To which I replied, 'If you're going to Topeka, I guess I'd
better come along,'" said a now-convinced Dale Duncan.
The Duncans, who have been married for 28 years and also have a
son who's in college at Pittsburg State, said their plans for the
prize money include new tires for their truck and a family
vacation.
"I don't know where we'll go," said the winner. "We just want to
be together. The years go by way too fast."
Teresa Duncan is a cosmetologist and also works at Grandma
Hoerner's in Alma. Dale Duncan is employed at Midway Wholesale in
Manhattan.
The lucky Slingo ticket was purchased at Short Stop 8, located
at 807 Highway 24 in Wamego.
