Great Bend Resident Plans to Use Lottery Prize for College

Chantel Poppelreiter, 25, told Kansas Lottery officials she plans to attend college now that she's won a $10,000 lottery prize.

"I've always wanted to take college courses, and this money will give me a good start," said the Great Bend resident.

Poppelreiter said she had become somewhat discouraged about playing instant scratch tickets, but decided to give it one more try with five $2 Sunny Money tickets.

"I hadn't been very lucky, and I said, 'These are the last tickets I'm going to buy,'" she explained. "Unbelievably, I won the $10,000 prize on the very last one I scratched!"

Poppelreiter looked the ticket over "about a hundred" times just to make sure it was real.  She said the most she's ever won before was $30.

In addition to attending college, Poppelreiter plans to use the prize money to pay bills.

"It's just crazy," she said. "It's almost too good to be true."

Poppelreiter purchased her lucky Sunny Money ticket at Presto 1632, located at 610 W. 7th Avenue in Augusta. The $2 Sunny Money game currently has three $10,000 top prizes that are still unclaimed.
