18-Year-Old Baldwin City Resident Wins $75,000 Top Prize

Baldwin City resident Michaela Armstrong decided in December to try her luck playing Kansas Lottery instant scratch games.  Armstrong, who turned 18 years old last August, enjoyed playing $5 instant scratch games.  That is until last Friday, when she had a little extra cash in her pocket.

"I usually play the $5 Candy Blast tickets," said Armstrong.  "Since I had a few extra dollars, I decided to buy a $10 ticket instead.  I thought Cash Extravaganza looked fun to play, so I bought one ticket."

Being a novice Kansas Lottery player, Armstrong wasn't sure if she had a winning ticket or non-winning ticket after playing the game.

"I didn't think I had a winner and almost threw away the ticket," said Armstrong.  "Thank goodness I checked it before throwing it away."  After checking her ticket, Armstrong discovered she had actually won a $75,000 top prize!

"I was in complete shock," said Armstrong.  "I couldn't quit shaking and crying.  I kept thinking this can't be real."

Once Armstrong was able to calm down a little from all of the excitement, she called her Mom to share the good news.

"It was really late when I called my Mom," said Armstrong.  "My voice was still shaking, so she thought I had been in a wreck or something bad had happened.  When I told her about my winning ticket, she was relieved I had good news instead of bad news."

Armstrong said she would like to take a vacation somewhere warm with a portion of her winnings.  The rest she said she would save.

The winning ticket was purchased at Kwik Shop 752, located at 522 Ames in Baldwin City. There is one $75,000 top prize remaining in the Cash Extravaganza game as well as thousands of other cash prizes.
