Inman Resident Passes the Time with $20,000 Winning
Ticket
According to Marsha Vedder, she enjoys passing the time playing
the Kansas Lottery's $2 Bonus Crossword instant scratch
tickets. On Sunday, the Inman resident purchased two tickets,
revealing all 10 words on the second ticket she scratched, winning
a $20,000 top prize!
"At first I thought I had won $100," said Vedder. "As I
kept revealing more words, I thought I must have won $2,000.
It wasn't until I got home and showed my son the ticket that I
realized I had missed another letter. That letter caused me
to reveal all 10 words on my ticket. I couldn't believe it. I
won $20,000! I told my son he was going to have to take me to
the emergency room."
Although Vedder was certain she had won a $20,000 top prize it
didn't sink in until Lottery officials verified her winning ticket
Monday.
"I was a little uncertain since I thought I had won other
amounts," said Vedder. "My daughter bought the ticket after
mine and had a few choice words when I told her how much I thought
I had won. She's happy for me, but wishes she had bought the
winning ticket. Bonus Crossword tickets are my favorite game
because they take a while to play. I've had good luck with
the $5 Crossword tickets. I've won $1,000 twice, but this is
my first big win on the $2 game."
Vedder, who retired in August, has three children, four
grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She plans to pay
bills and put new siding on her home with the winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at KAPS 1002, located at 1035
W. Kansas Ave. in McPherson.
