Hutchinson Resident Throws a Ringer and Wins $10,000 Instantly!

Malissa Cullison of Hutchinson threw a ringer playing the Kansas Lottery's Horseshoes instant scratch game and has won a cash prize worth $10,000!  Horseshoes is one of six instant scratch games offered in the Lottery's $20 Instant Scratch Game Book.   The game went on sale in December and offers players a chance to win a $100,000 top prize.

"I don't often buy lottery tickets," said Cullison. "I certainly never buy $20 tickets, but something just felt right about this game."

The lucky winner purchased her Instant Game Book Tuesday evening and took it home to scratch.  She matched the ringer illustrated on the Horseshoes game and instantly won a $10,000 cash prize!

"I thought I had won a prize, but I wasn't sure how much it was," said Cullison.  "I showed my ticket to my husband Rolando and told him I thought I had won $10,000.  Of course, he didn't believe me."

"I thought she was lying," said Rolando Cullison, who accompanied his wife to Topeka to claim her prize.  "Then I realized she was crying and knew right away she wasn't joking."

After having the ticket checked at a nearby convenience store, Cullison was thrilled when the Lottery terminal read, "Sign back of ticket. Claim at Lottery."

"I was very relieved and happy when the machine showed I had to claim my prize at the Lottery," said Cullison.  "I signed the
back of the ticket and put it in the side pocket of my purse.  I bet I checked my purse every 10 minutes to make sure it was still there."

The Cullisons, who have five children between them, plan to pay bills with their winnings.

"We've had a lot of bad luck recently," said Cullison. "Hopefully this is a good sign and our luck is changing."

The winning ticket was purchased at Pic Quik 7, located at 428 E. 4th Ave. in Hutchinson.
