Parsons Resident Plays Favorite Lottery Game - Wins
$25,000 Top Prize
Lisa Harrington had a "nerve-wracking" weekend after discovering
Friday she had won a $25,000 top prize playing one of her favorite
Kansas Lottery instant scratch tickets - the $5 Kansas City Royals
game. After what seemed like a long weekend to the Parsons
resident, she made the trip to Lottery headquarters in Topeka
Monday morning to claim her prize.
"Nothing like this has ever happened to me," said
Harrington. "I was nervous all weekend, even though I had my
ticket in a safe place."
The 50-year-old winner purchased the winning ticket last
Thursday evening, but didn't realize the ticket was worth $25,000
until the following morning.
"When I bought the ticket Thursday, I didn't actually play the
game," said Harrington. "I was feeling lazy so I just
scratched the barcode. The next morning, I went to Pete's
where my cousin works and had her scan the ticket to see if it was
a winner. When she scanned it a claim form automatically
printed out, and she said I must have won a big prize. She
handed me back the ticket and this time, I played the game.
When I realized I had a $25,000 winner I screamed, 'I won! I
won!' I couldn't stop shaking."
The lucky winner, who said she buys lottery tickets every day,
hopes her luck will continue.
"Maybe I'll get lucky again this week and I'll win something on
my Powerball or Mega Millions tickets," Harrington said.
"I've already bought my tickets for this week."
Harrington, who works for Residential Treatment Services of
Southeast Kansas (RTSSK) as a caregiver, plans to use a portion of
her winnings towards moving to Atlanta.
"I've been planning on moving for a while," explained
Harrington. "Winning $25,000 just made the move a lot
The winning ticket was purchased at Pete's 8, located at 1430
Main St. in Parsons.
