Manhattan Resident tries Something Different - Wins $20,000
Top Prize
26-year-old Laura Weston had a very exciting weekend after
purchasing 10 of the Kansas Lottery's $2 Bonus Crossword instant
scratch tickets on Saturday. The Manhattan resident revealed
all 10 words on the last ticket she scratched, winning a $20,000
top prize!
I was so surprised when I won," said Weston. "I usually
buy the $2 Lucky Lines or Bingo tickets, but for some reason I
decided to try something different and bought 10 of the Crossword
tickets instead."
After realizing she had won a $20,000 top prize, Weston signed
the back of her winning ticket and stopped by a nearby convenience
store to have the ticket verified.
"I think everyone in the store thought I was crazy after I
scanned my ticket," said Weston. "I was so excited. I
kept saying, 'Oh my God! Oh my God! I just won $20,000!'"
Since she wasn't able to claim her winning ticket until today,
Weston's mom offered her daughter some good advice.
"I told her she needed to keep the ticket in a safe place," said
Weston's mom, who accompanied her daughter to Lottery
headquarters. "I was afraid she would lose it, spill
something on it, or something else would happen that would cause
the ticket to be invalid."
Taking her mom's advice, Weston hid her winning ticket in a file
for safe keeping.
"I wasn't nervous about having the ticket over the weekend,"
said Weston. "I was too excited about winning."
Weston, who has four children, works as a District Manager for
the Manhattan Mercury in Manhattan. She said she plans to
spoil her children with her winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Shop Quik 11, located at
3108 Anderson Ave. in Manhattan.
