Tonganoxie Resident Wins $44,000 2by2 Tuesday Grand Prize!

For the past six years, Kevin Harris of Tonganoxie has played the same numbers when purchasing tickets for the Kansas Lottery's 2by2 game.  In addition, he also purchases tickets for seven consecutive drawings, which qualifies him for 2by2 Tuesday prizes if he wins on a Tuesday.  His persistence paid off Tuesday, July 16 when he matched both Red numbers 03 and 20 and both White numbers 10 and 13 in that night's drawing for a grand prize win of $44,000!

"I knew those numbers would have to come up eventually," said Harris.  "I've been using them for the last six years.  The numbers I picked are my and my wife's birthdays.  Now that I've won, maybe I should put them in retirement."

Harris, who is retired from the Navy, said when he checked his winning ticket on the Lottery's website, he couldn't believe what he was seeing.

"At first I thought I had won $22,000 and was happy with that," said Harris.  "Then I remembered I had won on Tuesday, which doubled the $22,000 I thought I had won to $44,000.  I had to sit there for a while and let it sink in."

Once the big win sank in, Harris went to tell his wife Rosie the good news.

"She was at our neighbor's house swimming," said Harris.  "I held up the ticket and told her how much I had won, but she didn't believe me.  Our neighbor finally convinced her that it didn't sound like I was joking, so she came home to see for herself."

After signing the back of the winning ticket, Harris placed it in one of many ammunition boxes he has for safekeeping until he was able to take a day off work to claim the prize.

"When you have something like that lying around, you get a little nervous," said Harris.  "I envisioned a tornado or other disaster coming along and ruining my ticket.  I had a few sleepless nights."

Thankfully, no disasters happened and Harris was able to claim his $44,000 grand prize this afternoon at Lottery headquarters in Topeka.

The lucky winners, who have two children and one grandchild, were undecided how they would spend their winnings.  The winning ticket was purchased at B & J Country Mart, located at 319 Ridge in Tonganoxie.
