Olathe Resident Hits 8-Spot Keno with Progressive Jackpot
Winning $21,980
An Olathe resident was quite surprised Monday afternoon when he
checked his 8-Spot Keno ticket. Kelly Skeels, 46, matched all
eight numbers on an 8-Spot Keno ticket, winning the top prize of
$10,000. Since he matched all numbers playing the game, he
also won the progressive jackpot worth $11,980, bringing his total
winnings to $21,980!
Players who purchase a 6, 7, or 8-Spot Keno ticket are eligible
to win a progressive jackpot when matching all numbers in each game
to win even bigger prizes!
"I play Keno a few times a week," explained Skeels. "I
usually play a 6-Spot, but since the progressive jackpot was higher
for the 8-Spot, I decided to play it. I wasn't even paying
attention to the numbers when they came up. The bartender
told everyone in the bar it looked like someone had hit the
jackpot. We didn't think it would be any of us."
After checking his ticket on a Check-A-Ticket machine, Skeels
was beginning to wonder if in fact, he had the winning ticket.
"The machine read, 'Sign back of Ticket' and that got me to
wondering if I did have the ticket," said Skeels. "I asked
the bartender to check my ticket again and sure enough, I was
holding the winner. After calling my wife and a few other
friends, I bought a round of drinks and lunch for the four people
in the bar. I also gave the bartender a big tip for selling
me the ticket."
Skeels, who purchased a $20 ticket for 20 consecutive games,
picked his own winning numbers. The winning numbers were 13,
14, 17, 27, 47, 62, 63, and 64.
"I always play 13, 17 and 27," said Skeels. "The other
numbers were lucky guesses."
Skeels and his wife Sandy, who have been married 24 years, have
two children. He was undecided how he would spend his
winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Double Nickel Bar &
Grill, located at 189 S. Rogers Rd. in Olathe.
