A Valentine's Day Surprise - Shawnee Resident Wins
$25,000 Top Prize
Kassie Madden of Shawnee had an unforgettable Valentine's Day
this year. The 29-year-old purchased a couple of the Kansas
Lottery's $5 Money
Mania instant scratch tickets and won a sweet prize worth
$25,000 on the first ticket she scratched!
"I bought two of the $5 tickets while I was waiting to meet my
boyfriend Adam for lunch," explained Madden. "I didn't
scratch the tickets right away. I stuck them in my purse and
didn't scratch them until several hours later. When I
scratched the first ticket and realized I had won $25,000, I
started pacing and shaking. I was so surprised and nervous, I
accidentally ripped the top of the ticket."
The lucky winner, who buys Kansas Lottery instant scratch
tickets daily, said she almost quit buying the Money Mania game and
was extremely glad she didn't give up.
"I wasn't having much luck, so I was ready to try something
different," said Madden. "Thank the Lord, I didn't give up
and bought those tickets."
Madden, who has two young sons, plans to put her winnings to
"We're going to Florida, so part of my winnings will go towards
that trip and the rest will be used as a down payment on a house,"
The winning ticket was purchased at Phillips 66 17912, located
at 1233 Merriam Ln. in Kansas City, Kan. There are four
$25,000 top prizes remaining in the Money Mania game as well as
thousands of other cash prizes.
