Dexter Resident Celebrates Birthday with $10,000 Cash
Jeff Martin had an unforgettable 56th birthday this
year. The Dexter resident celebrated his birthday December 22
by purchasing a variety of Kansas Lottery instant scratch
tickets. While on his way home from work that day, he played
his tickets and discovered he had won a $10,000 cash prize playing
the $20 Ultimate Cash game!
"I couldn't believe it when I realized I had won $10,000," said
Martin. "Out of all the tickets I bought, I scratched the
Ultimate Cash ticket last. As I matched more and more numbers
on the ticket and the prize amount kept adding up to more and more,
I thought 'Happy Birthday to me!'"
The lucky winner said he buys Kansas Lottery games every day and
believes good Karma led to his big birthday win.
"I'm a quarry foreman at Pray Stone Company in Winfield,"
explained Martin. "Every year, we are closed the week between
Christmas and New Year's Day. One of my employees, who had
recently started working for us, didn't have enough vacation hours
and was worried about not being paid for the week we're off.
To help him out, I gave him a $100 winning scratch ticket I had won
the day before my birthday, so he would have some money.
Shortly after I gave him the $100 ticket, he received news that he
would indeed get paid while we were off, so he wanted to give me
back the winning ticket. Instead of taking the ticket back, I
told him to go ahead and keep it. I truly believe my good
Karma led to me to this big win on my birthday."
Martin and his wife Cindy, who have been married 33 years, have
three grown children and six grandchildren. After discussing
their big win over the Christmas holiday, the Martins remain
undecided on how they plan to spend the winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Babi and Company 3, located
at 2124 E. 9th Ave. in Winfield.
