Independence Retiree Wins $25,000 Lottery Prize
James McDiarmid was feeling like a nobleman today when he came
to Lottery headquarters with a winning Sir Cash-a-Lot instant
scratch ticket. Or, if not a nobleman, just an extremely happy
McDiarmid, 70, couldn't stop smiling when he handed over his $5
ticket, on which he had revealed a $25,000 prize! McDiarmid said he
plays scratch tickets every day, but this past Tuesday was no
"I had purchased four tickets, including this one," the
Independence resident told Lottery officials. "After revealing a
$25,000 top prize, I checked the ticket three times to make sure I
had what I thought I had. Then I quickly signed the back of the
ticket and gave it to the clerk to check."
After the clerk verified his $25,000 prize, McDiarmid gave the
ticket to his wife Becky for safekeeping. Becky was not only in
charge of making sure the ticket stayed safe, she will also be in
charge of how they're spending their prize money.
"Becky is letting me keep $100," said McDiarmid with a smile.
