Wichita Family Man Gets a $10,000 Birthday Present
Wichita resident Michael Duane Harlow is having a good birthday.
Harlow came in to the Topeka Lottery Headquarters on his
62nd birthday to claim a $10,000 top prize he won on a
$2 Blackout Bingo instant scratch ticket.
Late Saturday afternoon, Harlow and his wife decided to stop at
Casey's General Store and pick up a few tickets for the weekend. It
was just before dinner that Harlow and his wife scratched off every
letter on the fourth card for a blackout worth $10,000.
"I couldn't believe it. Before this I was just really happy when
we won $50," Harlow said.
Harlow's wife immediately took the ticket and put it in a safe
place.
He and his wife Marlene are both recently retired and from their
three children they have five grandchildren and two great
grandchildren who keep them busy with baby-sitting duties.
Harlow and his wife plan on using some of the money for their
vacation to the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah to watch drivers
attempt to break land-speed world records.
"We also have three grand-daughters who are starting at Butler
soon, so maybe we can help with some books," Harlow said.
Harlow has a few more reasons to celebrate; a grandson returned
home this week from an 18-month tour in Afghanistan and Harlow is
celebrating 45 years of marriage to his wife on August 7.
Laughing, Harlow said, "I'm having a good week. I guess I'm just
lucky."
The winning ticket was purchased at Golf USA, located at 3244
Kimball Avenue in Wichita.
