A Promise is a Promise - Topeka Man Will Share $10,000 Prize
with Girlfriend
Gary Sumner, 49, of Topeka is a
man of his word. He told his girlfriend if she scratched off a
$10,000 prize on the ticket he bought he would split the prize with
her. She happily agreed and proceeded to play the
ticket. Unbelievably, she actually uncovered a $10,000
prize!
"I am going to split it with
her, just like I said," Sumner told officials when he claimed his
ticket this morning at Lottery headquarters. "She's really excited
because now she can pay off some bills."
The ticket was a $2 Diner
Doubler, a new game the Kansas Lottery launched earlier this
month.
"The classic car on the front of
the ticket caught my eye," the winner explained. "It reminded me of
one of my favorite shows, Diners, Drive-Ins and Diveson the Food
Network."
Sumner is employed as the head
building operator at Capital City School in Topeka. He said he will
use his half of the prize to give money to his church and add to
his savings account.
The lucky ticket was purchased
at Tilton's Oakland Market, located at 1905 NE Seward in
Topeka.
