Topeka Resident Beats the Dealer - Wins $10,000 Top
After last night, Blackjack may
be Erica Kuykendall's favorite game to play. The 29-year-old
Topeka resident beat the dealer on a $1 Blackjack instant scratch
ticket and won a $10,000 top prize!
"I hardly ever purchase lottery
tickets," said Kuykendall. "I'm a single mom with three kids
and I rarely have the extra money to spend. When I stopped at
a Kwik Shop last night, I decided to buy a few tickets and asked
the store clerk to pick me out two $2 tickets and two $1
After making her purchase,
Kuykendall went home and scratched her tickets. When she beat
the dealer on the $1 Blackjack ticket she purchased, she couldn't
believe what she was seeing.
"I've never won more than $2 on
a scratch ticket," said Kuykendall. "When I saw I had won
$10,000 it didn't seem real. I took the ticket back to the
store and had the same store clerk check it for me. He told
me I had to take my ticket down to the Lottery office because it
was a big winner. I barely slept last night and when I did
fall asleep, I had dreams about claiming the ticket."
Still a little unsure of her big
win, Kuykendall called the Lottery headquarters office in Topeka
first thing this morning to have her ticket verified.
"Even after hearing it from
Lottery officials that I won $10,000 it still seems unreal," said a
teary eyed Kuykendall. "My faith has been restored.
I've been struggling financially this year and was worried about
buying coats and other winter clothes for my kids. Now I
won't have to worry. This win is a true blessing."
Kuykendall, who works for Auto
Finance Centers in Topeka, also plans to save a portion of her
prize winnings so her children can have a nice Christmas this
year. She purchased the winning ticket at Kwik Shop 713,
located at 5700 SW 21st St. in Topeka.
