Agra Resident Wins $20,000 "Bonus"
According to Duane Peterson, he enjoys playing Kansas Lottery
instant scratch games three times a week. Yesterday afternoon,
the Agra resident stopped at a nearby convenience store where he
purchased five of the $2 Bonus Crossword instant tickets.
Although he didn't have much luck on the first two tickets he
scratched, he receive a "bonus" worth $20,000 when he revealed all
10 words on the third ticket he played, winning a $20,000 top
prize!
"I was pretty excited when I saw how much I had won," said
Peterson. "The store clerk told me to sign the back of my
ticket, but when I tried signing it I was pretty shaky."
After signing the back of his winning ticket, Peterson called
his wife Donna to share the good news.
"When he called me with the news, I didn't believe him," said
Donna. "I kept saying, 'You're kidding me,' and he kept
saying, 'No, I wouldn't tease you about that.' I think it
finally sank in when he showed me the winning ticket. I think
I'm going to start playing lottery tickets now."
Although Peterson was excited about his big win, he hasn't
shared the good news with many friends or family members.
"Since we had to come to Lottery headquarters to claim the
prize, we told our son who lives in Topeka," Peterson said
laughing. "Our other two kids don't know yet, but I'm sure
they'll find out soon."
The Petersons, who have been married 46 years, plan to pay bills
with their winnings. The winning ticket was purchased at 1st
Stop 6208, located at 695 State Ave. in Phillipsburg.
