Dexter Resident Hunts Down $10,000 Prize

Don Killingsworth, 74, of Dexter, Kansas climbed out of his deer stand this morning to come to Topeka to claim his $10,000 prize on a $2 Kickoff Cash ticket. He's had the ticket for two weeks now, but hasn't had the time to come to Topeka.

"Its deer season and I'm pretty busy right now," said Killingsworth with a laugh, "I scratched the ticket off in the store, and we knew it was a winner. I went home and showed my daughter, and I put it in a cabinet. And it's been there until this morning."

Killingsworth is a retired road and bridge foreman, and is an avid deer hunter. "I can come and claim the ticket at any time, but deer season is limited," he said. "In fact, when we're through here, we're going right back out there to hunt this afternoon."

Killingsworth's wife Terry passed away in 2003. They have one daughter Lacey who just gave birth to his second grandchild. "She very recently bought the house right next to mine, which is great. I get to see them all the time now," said Killingsworth.

With Christmas right around the corner, it's safe to assume the grandchildren will probably get a few extra presents under the tree. "I'm sure I'll get them some extra presents," Killingsworth said. "And the rest of it will just go in the bank. It will be nice to have a little extra for my retirement."

The winning ticket was sold at Felts One-Stop 2 in Burden, Kansas. There is still one top prize left in the $2 Kickoff Cash instant scratch game.
