Hutchinson Player "Stinkin' Rich" after Winning $25,000 Top Prize

While on her way to work yesterday morning, Diane Schultz of Hutchinson stopped at a local convenience store for a cup of coffee.  While at the store, Schultz decided to cash in a $5 winning instant scratch ticket for a different Kansas Lottery instant scratch game - a $5 Stinkin' Rich ticket.  After scratching the ticket, Schultz discovered she was "stinkin' rich" when she revealed a $25,000 top prize playing the game!

"I didn't scratch my ticket until I pulled into the parking lot at work," said Schultz.  "I could hardly believe what I was seeing.  I immediately called my husband Dave, and of course, he didn't believe me."

After sitting in her car for a few minutes in disbelief, Schultz made it into work where she showed her boss the winning ticket.

"My boss and coworkers were very excited for me," said Schultz.  "I didn't know what to do with the ticket, so my boss suggested I should have it checked.  She knew I wasn't going to be able to concentrate on my job if I wasn't 100 percent sure I had a winning ticket."

Taking her boss's advice, the lucky winner decided to take her winning ticket back to the store where she purchased it and have it verified.

"I always stop at this store and feel comfortable with the clerks," said Schultz.  "When one of them told me I had to claim my prize at the Lottery, I knew without a doubt I had won a top prize."

After signing the back of her winning ticket, Schultz kept it in her back pocket until it was time for her to leave work.  Once she was at home, she found a special hiding place for the winning ticket until she could make the trip to Topeka to claim her prize.

Schultz, who works for Lowen Sign Company in Hutchinson, has been married to Dave Schultz for 30 years.  They have two grown children and three grandchildren.  They were undecided how they would spend their winnings.

"We haven't had much time to decide what we're going to do with the money," said Schultz.  "We'll probably pay a few bills and possibly buy a new computer."

The winning ticket was purchased at Kwik Shop 765, located at 434 E.17th Ave. in Hutchinson.
