Manhattan Resident has Beginner's Luck; Wins $10,000 Cash Prize after Buying First Kansas Lottery Ticket

Dalton Stockton of Manhattan has never purchased a Kansas Lottery ticket until the Lucky Lines instant scratch game caught his eye last week while at a local convenience store.  The 22-year-old seemed to have had beginner's luck after he won a $10,000 top prize playing the $2 game!

"Since I've never bought a lottery ticket before, it took me a minute to figure out I had a winner," said Stockton.  "When I realized it was a big winner, I thought 'Holy Cow! How lucky is that?'"

After showing his wife Lucy the winning ticket, the first-time lottery player decided not to share the good news with his family or friends until he was 100 percent positive he had a winning ticket.

"I didn't want to tell my parents until I was sure it was a winner," said Stockton.  "Lucy couldn't wait to tell her parents, so she called them right away.  We're going to buy lottery tickets more often.  I think that will be our new Christmas tradition."

The Stocktons, who moved from La Cygne to Manhattan to continue their education, said they plan to pay off some of their student loans with a portion of their winnings and they plan to invest the rest.  Stockton is an electrician's apprentice, while Lucy is earning her bachelor's degree in elementary education from K-State University.

The winning ticket was purchased at Short Stop 12, located at 2010 Tuttle Creek Blvd. in Manhattan.  There are two $10,000 top prizes remaining in the $2 Lucky Lines game as well as hundreds of thousands of other cash prizes.
