K-State Senior Receives Early Graduation "Bonus" worth
$20,000
K-State senior Benjamin Buckles of Topeka received an early
graduation "bonus" last Tuesday after playing a $2 Bonus Crossword
instant scratch ticket. The finance major revealed all 10
words on his ticket, winning a $20,000 top prize!
"I buy a Crossword ticket every Friday since it's pay day," said
Buckles. "I'm not really sure when I bought my winning ticket.
I had a stack of tickets I had previously bought, but hadn't
finished playing. The winning ticket was in that stack and
could have been sitting there for weeks."
Although he seemed nonchalant about winning a $20,000 top prize,
Buckles is very thankful he discovered the winning ticket.
"I was completely surprised when I realized I had won $20,000,"
said Buckles. "I spent a lot of time going over the ticket to
ensure I hadn't made a mistake. I didn't want to have it
verified at a store because to me, that's like having a pocketful
of money and it made me nervous."
After he was certain he had won a $20,000 top prize, Buckles
signed the back of his winning ticket and put it in a lockbox for
safe keeping.
"When I told some of my friends about my prize, they responded
with excited anger," said Buckles. "They were excited for me,
but angry because they haven't won."
Buckles, who will graduate in May, was undecided how he'll spend
his winnings.
"Winning $20,000 makes for a nice graduation present," said
Buckles. "I'll use the money for any number of things, but my
first thoughts are how I can put this to the best use."
The winning ticket was purchased at Dillons 15, located at 130
Saber Lane in Manhattan.
