Leavenworth "Coupon King" Wins $10,000 Lottery Prize
Wayne Ahrndt says his friends and family call him the "Coupon
King" because of his great propensity for using coupons when he
shops.
"Sometimes I save as much as half my grocery bill," the
62-year-old Leavenworth resident told Lottery officials.
Ahrndt may not have to worry as much about pinching pennies now
that he's won a $10,000 prize playing the Kansas Lottery's $2 Sunny
Money instant scratch game. Ahrndt said he had stopped by
the grocery store because he had coupons for barbeque sauce. While
there, he purchased two Sunny Money tickets but didn't win. He
decided to try one more, along with a Keno ticket.
"I scratched the Sunny Money ticket while I was waiting for the
Keno game to be drawn and just about had a heart attack when I saw
that I'd won $10,000!"
It must have been Ahrndt's lucky day because he also won $10 on
his 2-Spot Bull's-Eye Keno ticket when he matched one number.
Ahrndt was a corrections officer at Lansing Correctional
Facility before retiring last fall. Prior to that, he was in the
U.S. Army for 20 years. He has plans for his prize money.
"I'm glad to be able to pay off bills and stay ahead of the
game," the winner said. "I'm looking forward to summer and going
fishing."
Ahrndt purchased his $10,000 Sunny Money ticket at Price Chopper
20, located at 2107 South 4th Street in Leavenworth.
There are two $10,000 prizes still remaining in the game.
