Garden City Man "Goes for It" and Wins $20,000 Top
A couple of weeks ago, Adrian Martin-Saldana was down to his
last $2 when he decided to "go for it" and purchased a $2 Double
Bonus Crossword instant scratch ticket. The Garden City
resident couldn't believe his good fortune after he revealed 10
words on his ticket to win a $20,000 top prize!
"Little by little, I kept getting more and more words as I
played the ticket," said Martin-Saldana. "I kept thinking to
myself that this may really be happening - I might have won
$20,000! I was hoping for the best."
A couple of days later, Martin-Saldana still wasn't positive if
he had won a top prize, so he decided to scan his winning ticket at
a nearby convenience store.
"At that point, I hadn't said a word to anyone about my ticket,"
said the winner. "Even when I scanned the ticket at the store
and the machine said I should sign the back of it and claim it at
the Lottery, I wasn't totally convinced. Things like this
never happen to me."
The lucky winner finally confided in a few friends and secured a
ride to Lottery headquarters in Topeka. When he arrived to
claim his prize, Martin-Saldana was thrilled when Lottery officials
confirmed he had won a $20,000 top prize.
"I have a strong faith in God," said Martin-Saldana. "I
feel very blessed. I'm filled with joy and happiness right
now. I'm so grateful this has happened. I've always
said if God blessed me with a big win, I would give some of the
money to a church and to the Salvation Army, and that's what I
intend to do. I'll save the rest or maybe take a trip."
The winning ticket was purchased at Food Mart 3, located at 1505
Buffalo Jones Ave. in Garden City. There are 20 $20,000 top
prizes remaining in the $2 Double Bonus Crossword game as well as
hundreds of thousands of other cash prizes.
