Two Couples Share $250,000 Mega Millions Prize
Two couples who traveled
together to Lottery headquarters today share more than friendship;
they're also sharing a $250,000 Mega Millions prize.
The winners, who asked the Lottery not to identify them publicly,
are from Kansas City Metro area. They matched the first five
numbers in the January 22 Mega Millions drawing, missing the
jackpot by just one number. The numbers on the winners' $1 Quick
Pick ticket were 7-11-16-39-54 Mega Ball 9. The winning
numbers were 7-11-16-39-54 Mega Ball 13.
"We didn't win the jackpot, but
we're very grateful for what we did win," they said.
The couples said they have been
playing Powerball and Mega Millions together for about five years.
One of the husbands is the designated purchaser and checker of all
the tickets. He told Lottery officials he bought the
winning ticket at a different store than usual this
time.
"I was running late that night,
and it was the only place I was going to pass on my way home, so I
stopped there," he said.
The place he purchased the
ticket was the 7-Eleven, located at 11724 Quivira Road in Overland
Park.
"We thought it was pretty
interesting that the ticket was purchased at a 7-Eleven and the
first two numbers on our ticket were 7 and 11," they
said.
The couples plan to continue
playing together and hope to find more lucky numbers in the
future.
