Winner of $2.13 Million Super Kansas Cash Jackpot Claims Prize

A $2,131,550 cash jackpot from the November 27, 2013 Super Kansas Cash drawing has been claimed by an Overland Park resident.  The winner, a woman in her 60s, brought the lucky ticket to Lottery headquarters today to claim the multi-million dollar jackpot. She was accompanied by her husband, their three adult children and a son-in-law and daughter-in-law.

"She is such a wonderful person, no one deserves this more," said the daughter-in-law.

The winner not only had her entire family with her to claim the prize, she also had her whole family with her when she found out she had won the jackpot.

"It was Thanksgiving Day, the day after the drawing," said the ecstatic winner. "We were all having dinner at our son's house and had just gotten done putting the turkey in the oven. I checked my phone to see if anybody had won the Super Kansas Cash jackpot the night before. I saw the jackpot had been hit and when I checked the numbers, I found out it was my ticket!"

According to the winner's family, she ran outside yelling, "I just won, I just won, I just won." Then, they said, she alternated between crying and laughing.

"It was just a wonderful way to win," said the winner's son. "To have the whole family there in the same place made it so incredible."

The winning numbers were 5-8-11-23-25 Cashball 15.  The winning ticket was a $3 ticket. The winner had picked her own numbers on three of the plays. On the other three, she let the computer pick the numbers. The winning play was one of those the computer had picked.

The winner had 365 days from the date of the drawing to claim the jackpot and decided to wait until 2014 for tax purposes. She stashed the $2.13 million ticket in her daughter's safe until claiming it today.

"It's been pretty stressful," said the winner. "I even had a dream that my daughter's puppy somehow got the ticket out of the safe and ate it. What a nightmare!"

The winner will pay federal taxes of $532,887.50 and state taxes of $106,577.50. After total taxes of $639,465, the winner is taking home $1,492,085.

The winner says she will use the prize money "to do what I can for the loves of my life."  That includes a family trip, catching up on bills and saving for retirement.

The $2.13 million ticket was sold by Cosentino's Price Chopper 199, located at 7418 W. 119th Street in Overland Park. For selling the winning ticket, the store becomes eligible for a $1,000 bonus.

After being hit on November 27, 2013, the Super Kansas Cash jackpot was again captured on December 16, 2013 for $170,000.  The Super Kansas Cash jackpot for tomorrow night now stands at an estimated $160,000.

Super Kansas Cash is a Kansas-only game with jackpots starting at $100,000.  Players get two plays for $1 and can purchase up to 15 consecutive draws on a single ticket. Drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
