Powerball Game changing January 22; Fewer Multi-Draws available after November 30 Drawing

The Kansas Lottery is preparing for a change to the Powerball game coming early next year.  Starting with the January 22, 2014, drawing, the Power Play multiplier option will return to a random multiplier option using 2X, 3X, 4X and 5X.

The Power Play option increases prizes won in Powerball by as much as five times the normal prize. There are two exceptions. The Match 5 Power Play prize will not be multiplied and remains at $2 million, and the Jackpot prize is not multiplied.

No other changes to Powerball are planned. Players still choose 5 numbers from a field of 59, and the Powerball from a field of 35. The cost of a Powerball play remains $2, with the Power Play option costing an additional $1 per play. The last day for players to use current Powerball play slips is January 18, 2014. New play slips will be delivered to all Lottery retailers.

The Powerball game change will affect Kansas players who like to purchase tickets for multiple consecutive drawings.  To prepare, the Kansas Lottery is "stepping down" the number of consecutive Powerball drawings players can purchase after the November 30, 2013 drawing until after the January 18, 2014 drawing.

Below is a table of the maximum number of multi-draws available for Powerball drawings after each drawing date, whether using a play slip or asking a store clerk to manually enter the number of draws for your ticket:
