Powerball Jackpot Increases to $425 Million for August 7
The weather isn't the only thing that's hot. Player excitement
is heating up for a Powerball jackpot that has climbed to at an
estimated $425 million for tomorrow night's drawing! The cash
option for anyone lucky enough to match all numbers will be an
estimated $244.7 million.
The estimated $425 million jackpot would be the third largest
Powerball jackpot in history. The record Powerball jackpot was
$590.5 million, captured in Florida on May 18, 2013.
Sales are brisk, as Kansas players try to capture the Powerball
jackpot on Wednesday. The most recent Powerball jackpot winner in
Kansas was a Johnson County resident, who won $50 million on
December 19, 2012. The largest Powerball jackpot winner in Kansas
was Donald Damon of Great Bend, who won a $96.6 million jackpot on
November 11, 2009. The largest jackpot ever hit in Kansas was one
third of a record $656 million Mega Millions jackpot captured by a
Franklin County winner who won $218 million on March 30, 2012.
Keep in mind - a player need not hit the jackpot to win a large
Powerball prize. There are nine ways to win in Powerball. If
you match the first five numbers, but not the Powerball, you win $1
million. Two Kansas Lottery players did that last month.
Nelson Worley of Osawatomie won $1 million in the July 20 drawing,
and an Overland Park resident won $1 million in the July 27
Both of those $1 million winners could have instead won $2
million each, had they paid an extra $1 for Power Play. Power Play
multiplies all Powerball prizes won, except for the jackpot. To see

Kansas players have until 8:59 p.m. tomorrow night to purchase
Powerball tickets. The drawing will be held at 9:59 p.m. Central
