Mega Millions Jackpot Climbs to $309 Million for March 11

The Mega Millions jackpot for March 11 has climbed to a whopping $309 million after no ticket matched all numbers in last Friday's drawing.  The cash option on the jackpot is $169.5 million.

If a single ticket matches all numbers in Mega Millions, and that ticket is sold in Kansas, the winner would receive approximately $118.65 million with the cash option, after federal and state taxes were paid.

It was nearly two years ago, March 30, 2012, that a Kansas player matched all numbers in Mega Millions, to capture one third of a $656 million jackpot. That jackpot still holds the record as the largest jackpot in U.S. history. The Kansas winning ticket was sold in Ottawa.

The Mega Millions jackpot was last hit on January 3, 2014, when a player in Tennessee matched all numbers and won $61 million.  March 7 marked the 18th Mega Millions drawing with no jackpot winner.

In addition to the jackpot, there are eight other ways for players to win a prize playing Mega Millions.  Each Mega Millions play costs $1. For an additional $1 per play, a player may purchase the Megaplier option for a chance to multiply all prizes by 2, 3, 4 or 5 times, except for the jackpot.

Mega Millions drawings are held Tuesdays and Fridays. Mega Millions is played in 45 lotteries: 43 states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
