Mega Millions Jackpot $586 Million for Tuesday Night

Lottery terminals are humming all over the state, as players make a mad dash for tickets to see if they can win a $586 million jackpot in tomorrow night's Mega Millions drawing.  The cash option for the jackpot is an estimated $316.5 million.

Depending on the level of Mega Millions sales nationwide, it's possible the jackpot could be increased again before the drawing.  It was already increased from $550 to $586 this morning, based on strong sales.

If captured, the $586 million jackpot would be the second largest in Mega Millions history and the fourth largest jackpot ever.  The Mega Millions jackpot has rolled 21 times without a winner since a Maryland player hit a $189 million jackpot on October 1.

The price of a Mega Millions ticket is $1. The Megaplier option costs an additional $1 per play and multiplies all non-jackpot prizes up to five times, to a maximum of $5 million.

Despite the heightened excitement over a jackpot of this size, the Kansas Lottery reminds players to play responsibly and not spend more than their budgets allow. Players must be 18 to purchase a lottery ticket.

Players have until 8:59 p.m. Tuesday to purchase Mega Millions tickets for Tuesday's drawing. Players should sign the back of their tickets at the time of purchase and keep them in a safe place until the drawing.  Mega Millions drawings are held at 10:00 p.m. Tuesdays and Fridays.
