Hot Lotto Game Heats up this Spring

Bigger prizes and a cash-only jackpot with taxes paid are among the changes players will see with the Hot Lotto game next week.

Beginning with the May 15 drawing, the game's second prize will jump from $10,000 to $30,000 ($30,000 to $90,000 with the Sizzler option), while the third prize goes from $500 to $3,000 ($1,500 to $9,000 with the Sizzler option).  Plus, if you win the Hot Lotto jackpot, you will be paid 100% in cash and the initial withholding taxes will be paid on your behalf by the Lottery. Players who win the advertised jackpot will receive the entire jackpot amount!

"That's awesome," said Tammy King, manager of Hutch's C-Store 111 in Liberal. "I think that will go over very well with our players."

"I think having the taxes paid is a good change," commented Jenny Hemphill, Hays, recently at a Lottery selling location at Kansas Speedway. "I'll probably play a lot more Hot Lotto now."

While the way Hot Lotto is played won't change, the field of numbers from which players choose their five white balls will grow from 39 to 47 under the enhanced game; players will continue to choose from among 19 numbers for their Hot Ball.  The price will still be just $1 per play, with the Sizzler option available for an additional dollar.

The May 11 Hot Lotto drawing will be the last one under the old version of the game. Sales for the new enhanced Hot Lotto begin May 12.  The estimated jackpot for May 11 is $6.11 million (annuity).

Hot Lotto is currently played in 16 lottery jurisdictions.  Kansas players have won five multimillion dollar Hot Lotto jackpots since Kansas began offering the Hot Lotto game in 2006.  Click here for a list of Hot Lotto jackpot winners: Kansas Hot Lotto Millionaires.
