Kansas Lottery Turning 25 Years Old;
Public Invited to November 13 Birthday Party

It was November 12, 1987, when the Kansas Lottery sold its very first ticket. Sales of the first instant game, Up and Away, were $7 million the first week. The Lottery has been going strong ever since, and will celebrate its 25th birthday next week.

Players, the public and former employees are invited to a special Kansas Lottery birthday celebration and player appreciation open house. Details are as follows:

KANSAS LOTTERY BIRTHDAY PARTY
Tuesday, November 13
2-4 p.m.
Lottery Headquarters
108 N. Kansas Ave.
Topeka

The event will begin in the parking lot with short comments from Dennis Wilson, the current Kansas Lottery executive director, as well as Larry Montgomery, the Lottery's first executive director (1987-89).  A celebratory balloon release will follow.

Cake and punch will be served inside Lottery headquarters, and all participants 18 or older will have a chance to "spin the prize wheel" for FREE lottery merchandise, while supplies last.  94.5 Country will broadcast live from the Lottery. A Veterans Service Mobile Delivery Unit, paid for with proceeds from special Kansas Lottery Veteran's games, will also be on display.

The Kansas Lottery's fun new mascots, Powerball and Megaball, will be on hand to meet and greet visitors. There will also be display of vintage Lottery products and promotional items.
