$50 Million Powerball Jackpot Hit in Kansas!
It's going to be a very Merry
Christmas and a Happy New Year for the holder of a single ticket
sold in Kansas that captured an estimated $50 million jackpot in
last night's Powerball drawing! The lucky ticket was sold in
northeast Kansas and matched all numbers: 5-8-20-23-30 Powerball 3.
The cash option for the prize is an estimated $32.679
million.
The Kansas Lottery urges all
players with Powerball tickets from last night to check their
tickets right away. The holder of the winning jackpot
ticket should sign the ticket immediately and put it in a safe
place until the ticket is claimed. The winner may want to
consult with an attorney and/or financial adviser before claiming
the ticket.
Please note: Lottery
headquarters in Topeka and all State offices in Shawnee County will
not open today until 10:00 a.m., due to inclement
weather.
Among the decisions the winner
will have to make is whether to take the jackpot prize as an
annuity paid out over 29 years (30 payments) or a cash lump
sum.
The northeast region of Kansas,
where the ticket was sold, includes these 21 counties: Marshall,
Nemaha, Brown, Doniphan, Riley, Pottawatomie, Jackson, Atchison,
Geary, Wabaunsee, Shawnee, Jefferson, Leavenworth, Wyandotte,
Johnson, Osage, Douglas, Franklin, Miami, Morris and the northern
half of Lyon.
The Powerball jackpot returns to
an estimated $40 million (annuity) for Saturday's
drawing.
Powerball is played in 44
lottery jurisdictions - 42 states, Washington, D.C. and the U.S.
Virgin Islands.
