Creative Hairlines aims to be a cutting edge salon and spa that is located in the heart of Kansas. The salon and spa offers various services from a basic haircut, massage therapy, facial treatments, body sugaring to hair coloring just to name a few.
According to Creative Hairlines co-owner, Bonnie Kaufman, the salon and spa always had a vision. "Our vision was to have a big city spa in a small town," Kaufman said.
Kaufman and her sister, Vicky Hildebrand, are the owners of Creative Hairlines. They have owned the salon for 24 years. They started the day spa eight years ago. Creative Hairlines is located at 207 S. Main, in McPherson, Kan.
Where the Money Goes:
Creative Hairlines is one of many Kansas businesses that has received funding from the Kansas Lottery through the Kansas Department of Commerce.
Organization: Creative Hairlines, 207 S. Main, in McPherson.
Grant Type: Incentives Without Walls.
Grant Amount: $15,000.
"We are a full service salon," Kaufman said. "We have two massage rooms, one facial room, one spray tanning room, and one tanning room."
Kaufman said that her salon and spa also employs four massage therapists.
"Right now our most popular services are pedicures and massages," Kaufman said. "People are so busy that they need to take care of themselves and going to the spa is a good way to do that."
Kaufman also said that massages are very helpful.
"Massages help a lot of people with a lot of problems, because they help release toxins from your body," Kaufman said. "They are really good for you."
Another service that Creative Hairlines offers is body sugaring.
"Body sugaring is a hair removal service that we offer, some people haven't heard of it, but it's available and we went to Canada to learn about it 10 years ago," Kaufman said.
Kaufman recently got the chance to make some improvements to Creative Hairlines. Kaufman and Hildebrand received a $15,000 Incentive Without Walls grant from Kansas Department of Commerce. Funding for the IWW grant is provided by the Economic Development Initiatives Fund (EDIF), which is derived through lottery proceeds.
"We hired contractors and in ten days we raised the ceiling, put in a new floor, new walls, and put in two new rooms," Kaufman said. "It was wonderful to get the grant. We really appreciated it."
