First Time Hot Lotto Player Wins $10,000
TOPEKA, KAN. – Saturday evening while waiting in line to purchase lottery tickets at a convenience store, Doug Pabst overheard a customer in front of him ask for a Hot Lotto ticket. Pabst had never tried the game, so when it was his turn at the counter, he thought he’d try his luck. The Pomona resident purchased a $2 Quick Pick Hot Lotto ticket, winning a $10,000 cash prize by matching the first five Hot Lotto numbers, in the March 29 drawing.
“Sunday morning, I checked my ticket on the Lottery’s website,” explained Pabst. “I knew I’d won, but I couldn’t believe it. I decided to take my ticket back to the store where I bought it and have them check it.”
According to Pabst, he was so nervous when he handed the store clerk his winning ticket he was shaking.
“When I handed her my ticket, I said, ‘I think I won something,’” smiled Pabst. “When she checked it, she looked at me with disbelief and said, ‘You just won $10,000!’”
Pabst said he will continue to play Hot Lotto, but next time he’ll try the Sizzler option.
“Maybe next time, I’ll win triple the amount,” said Pabst. “I already feel like a celebrity. Everyone in town knows I won $10,000.”
Pabst and his wife Sara, who have two teenage children, plan to pay bills with their prize money.
The winning ticket was purchased at Casey’s General Store, located at 135 E. Franklin in Pomona.
