Altoona Mom Receives Early “Mother’s Day” Present
TOPEKA, KAN. – After fueling up her vehicle Tuesday morning, Wanda Myers walked into the convenience store to pay for her gas. While at the counter, the Altoona resident decided at the last minute to try her luck playing a $1 Mother’s Day Wishes instant scratch ticket. She was extremely happy she made that purchase when she won a $5,000 top prize.
“I buy tickets about twice a week,” said Myers. “I almost didn’t buy any tickets that day. I’m sure glad I did now.”
Myers, who works for Hi-Lo Industries, scratched her winning ticket once she arrived at work.
“When I realized I’d won $5,000, I started shaking,” said Myers. “I asked a co-worker to take a look at my ticket to make sure I wasn’t seeing things.”
After the co-worker confirmed she wasn’t seeing things, Myers signed the back of her ticket and never let it out of her sight.
“I was pretty nervous carrying that ticket around all day,” said Myers. “When I got home I decided I’d better hide it. What a great Mother’s Day present for me.”
Myers, who has three grown children and three grandchildren, with another one on the way, plans to pay bills with her prize money.
The winning ticket was purchased at Bailey’s Corner 6, located at 1702 S. Santa Fe St. in Chanute.
