Wife’s Premonition Leads to $10,000 Win
TOPEKA, KAN. – Last week, Leroy Menninga’s wife Barbara had a premonition that they would win playing lottery instant scratch tickets. With specific instructions from his wife, Menninga purchased four $2 The Great Santa Fe Trail Horse Race instant scratch tickets. Much to their disbelief, the premonition came true when the Wichita residents won a $10,000 top prize.
“Barbara told me I had to buy four tickets of game number nine,” said Menninga.
What Menninga is referring to is how retailers display instant scratch tickets. Many retailers have single counter-top dispensers that hold individual games. A lot of times retailers number these dispensers, so when a player asks for a particular game, they can say the number instead of the game name.
“When I arrived at the store, I asked for four of game number nine, which happened to be The Great Santa Fe Trail Horse race ticket,” said Menninga. “I took the tickets home to play and we were shocked when we won $10,000 on the fourth ticket. It took awhile before it sank in. We were just discussing how we were going to come up with extra money to send to our son, who lives in New York, for his birthday.”
The Menningas, who have been married 33 years and have two grown sons, plan to save most of their prize money.
“We’ll also send our son his birthday money,” smiled Menninga.
The winning ticket was purchased at Valero 17058, located at 1826 W. 13th St. N in Wichita.
