Yates Center Resident Cashes Free Ticket – Wins $5,000

TOPEKA, KAN. – Yesterday morning Robert McIntosh, who lives 20 miles south of Yates Center, made his daily trip into town to grocery shop and to purchase a Kansas Lottery instant scratch ticket. Much to his disbelief McIntosh, who purchased a $5 Super Red Hot Crossword instant scratch ticket, won a $5,000 cash prize.

“After I finished getting groceries, I stopped at Casey’s to get a lottery ticket,” explained McIntosh. “I waited until I got home to scratch my ticket. I won a free ticket, so I set it aside not thinking much of it. I worked in the yard in the afternoon and had supper that evening. My wife Christine was watching a television show I didn’t care to watch, so I thought I’d make a trip to town and cash in my free ticket.”

Due to gas prices, McIntosh rarely makes a trip into town twice in one day, but yesterday he made an exception.

“I’m sure glad I made the trip back to town,” smiled McIntosh. “When I cashed my free ticket in, I got another Super Red Hot Crossword ticket and that’s the ticket I won $5,000 on.”

According to McIntosh it took awhile before he realized he’d won a $5,000 cash prize.

“I don’t see as good as I used to,” said McIntosh. “I had to finally wake my wife. I asked her to take a look and she verified that I did indeed win. I hardly slept. I had my winning ticket right beside me all night.”

McIntosh, who is retired, is undecided how he’ll spend his winnings.

“I guarantee it won’t be spent foolishly,” said McIntosh. “But I do need a new easy chair.”

The winning ticket was purchased at Casey’s General Store 1697, located at 501 W. Mary St. in Yates Center.
