Garden City Man’s Morning Routine Nets $15,488 Win
GREAT BEND, KAN. – Every morning before work, LaVern Durst stops at a local convenience store to drink coffee and play Keno. Last Saturday morning was no exception. The Garden City resident purchased an 8-Spot Keno ticket, winning a $10,000 cash prize plus the progressive jackpot of $5,488, bringing his total winnings to $15,488.
“I thought I only matched seven numbers, winning $250,” explained Durst. “I checked my ticket on the store’s Check-A-Ticket machine and it read, ‘Claim at Lottery.’ I thought what in the heck is going on, so I had the store clerk run the ticket on their lottery terminal. That’s when I realized I missed seeing the eighth number come up on the Keno monitor.”
Once the ticket was verified, Durst signed the back and never let it out of his sight.
“Oh, man, was I excited,” said Durst. “I rarely miss playing Keno in the morning before work. I’ve been lucky. I won $7,500 playing a 7-Spot several years ago.”
Durst, who is single, manages Morton Building stores in Colby and Garden City. He is undecided how he’ll spend his winnings.
The winning ticket was purchased at Presto 2, located at 511 E. Kansas Ave. in Garden City.
