Application Deadline Passes for SC Gaming Zone

TOPEKA, KAN. – The deadline for groups to submit their applications to manage a state-owned casino in the South Central Gaming Zone of Kansas has passed. The deadline for applications was 5 p.m., Friday, December 28, 2007.

The Kansas Lottery received four applications from groups interested in locating a casino in Sumner County. MGM Mirage and Foxwoods Development Co. submitted an application November 13, and a supplement to that application was submitted December 26. Sumner Gaming Joint Venture, L.C. submitted its application November 13. An application from Penn National Gaming, Inc. was received by the Lottery on November 28. Marvel Gaming submitted its application on December 27.

The original deadline for the South Central Gaming Zone was November 13, 2007.
The Lottery Commission extended the deadline to December 28, 2007, at the request of the Sumner County Board of County Commissioners

The Lottery has 90 days, until March 27, 2008, to review the applications and negotiate contracts with the four groups. The Lottery will then forward any contract that is negotiated to the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board for its consideration.

The deadline for the South Central Gaming Zone is the third of four deadlines this month. Applications to manage a state-owned casino in the Southeast Zone (Crawford and Cherokee counties) were due December 6; applications in the Southwest Zone (Ford Co.) were due December 26; and groups have until December 31 to submit applications for the Northeast Zone (Wyandotte Co.).
