Lottery Commission Approves Amended Contract with
Chisholm Creek Casino

TOPEKA, KAN. – The Kansas Lottery Commission today approved an amended contract with the developers of the proposed Chisholm Creek Casino Resort in the South Central Gaming Zone of Kansas. The Lottery has been negotiating with the developers since December when Chisholm Creek requested the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board postpone a vote on the project and return the contract to the Lottery for more negotiations. The amended contract now goes back to the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board for its review.

“Obviously we are pleased to reach an agreement on the amendment to the contract,” said Kansas Lottery Executive Director Ed Van Petten. “We feel that this improves the chances of success for Chisholm Creek Casino and the State of Kansas.”

Amendments negotiated between Chisholm Creek Casino Resort and the Kansas Lottery include Chisholm Creek’s obligation to commence operating within 18 months of final approval of its contract. At a minimum, the facility must be no smaller than 72,000 square feet housing no fewer than 1,300 slot machines, 40 table games, and a restaurant seating at least 200 people. Depending upon if and when a tribal gaming facility operated by the Wyandotte Tribe of Oklahoma opens in Park City, Kansas, Chisholm Creek would be permitted to phase-in additional gaming and amenities.

Chisholm Creek has also committed to fulfill promises made to the Lottery Gaming Facility Review Board by seeking to have a hotel built as part of the casino project. Chisholm Creek has an existing agreement with Double Down Development to develop, construct and operate a hotel on the site where the casino will be located. The hotel is slated to have at least 100 rooms, including luxury guest suites, a swimming pool, and at least 5,000 square feet of meeting and conference facilities.

The Chisholm Creek Casino Resort contract amendment was approved at the regular monthly meeting of the Kansas Lottery Commission. The next regular meeting will be a teleconference meeting to be held March 17 at 11:15 a.m. at the Lottery Headquarters and Claims Building, located at 108 N. Kansas Ave. in Topeka.
